Grout: the bane of my existance

"Don't step on the cracks, you'll break your mother's back"... I'm convinced that a mom who was sick of cleaning grout came up with this rhyme!

I hate grout. Especially think grout lines. I'd love nothing more than to take a sledge hammer to my kitchen tile but alas, I haven't won the lottery yet and our to-do list is a mile long. So, until that glorious day arrives (because it will!) I experiment with ways to maintain clean grout lines. Did I mention I have 2 kids and 2 cats who are somehow constantly muddy??

I've tried commercial grout cleaners, toilet cleaner, Ajax and a stiff brush, and natural options like lemon juice with baking soda. I must say, up until today the lemon juice and baking soda was my favorite and go-to.

Today I tried something new and I was pleasantly surprised. My combo? Magic eraser sponges (name brand or off brand are fine), a small amount of Clorox cleanup and old-fashioned hands and knees scrubbing.

The results? Addicting!! Before I knew it I had my kitchen and utility room scrubbed and now I am itching to hit the foyer!

The process? Squirt just a bit of Clorox over the grout and wait 1-2 minutes.  Then scrub. After I exhausted an area I used my Bissell wet vac to rinse and dry. You could easily use a bucket of water to rinse and air dry, but I prefer my Bissell - I feel like it cleans better than the traditional mop, preventing residue.

Happy cleaning!!
